Site Visit to the Mulhouse Aquatic Centre Solar Thermal Installation

A technical field visit took place at the Mulhouse aquatic complex in partnership with Énergies Partagées en Alsace, offering local actors direct insight into an operational model for collective renewable heat.

Operational since 2010 across a 400 m² rooftop array, the solar thermal facility covers 17% of the aquatic centre’s yearly thermal demand, avoiding 73 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually with full capital payback achieved in under ten years. Organized in dialogue with the Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération (M2A) authorities, the session highlighted practical pathways for citizen-financed and community-led solar thermal schemes.

The initiative ties into the regional activities carried out in France by Alter Alsace Énergies, supported by the transnational network.
